POSITION DETAILS
Reporting to the President, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Hunter College Foundation Board will take a leadership role in strategically developing and implementing an aggressive fundraising program. The Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Hunter College Foundation Board will work closely with the President, foundation board, alumni association, senior administrators, faculty and fundraising volunteers in the planning and execution of the development program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Strategically develop, execute, and manage a comprehensive fundraising and marketing strategy encompassing major gifts, planned giving, annual funds, corporate and foundation relations, and special events while cultivating key donor and stakeholder relationships—including trustees, alumni, and community leaders—to advance the organization's mission and financial sustainability.
- Lead, develop, and manage a high-performing development team aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities, providing mentorship and capacity-building to drive fundraising success while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning, reinforced by performance metrics to ensure excellence and goal attainment.
- Design and oversee efficient fundraising and development operations by implementing robust systems for gift processing, database management, and reporting, while developing a strategic fundraising plan with clear goals, metrics, and timelines; managing a budget aligned with organizational priorities; and leveraging technology solutions to enhance donor engagement and operational effectiveness.
- Develop and execute strategic initiatives to identify, cultivate, and steward major gift prospects—including individuals, corporations, and foundations—by fostering personalized donor engagement, collaborating with the President and Board to solicit transformative gifts, crafting tailored proposals and agreements, and implementing rigorous tracking and reporting systems to measure fundraising success.
- Strategically identify, recruit, and onboard board members with relevant expertise, providing comprehensive training on the organization’s operations and goals, while regularly assessing board performance and individual contributions; organize development opportunities to enhance governance, fundraising, and legal knowledge, oversee the formation and effectiveness of board committees, cultivate future leadership, and foster a collaborative, communicative environment to ensure the board's continued alignment with organizational priorities.
- Serve as a key executive leader, collaborating with the President and senior leadership to shape and execute the organization’s strategic vision while ensuring cross-departmental alignment. Provide direction to the development team, leading annual planning and budgeting with a SMART goal framework to drive measurable success.
- Regularly advise the President and Foundation Board on fundraising progress, challenges, and strategic adjustments. Represent the organization in public forums, fostering relationships with donors, community leaders, and peer institutions to enhance visibility, impact, and mission advancement.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary commensurate with education and experience ($210,000-$260,000).
