Description

The Avalon Theatre is seeking applications for the full-time position of Director of Development and Community Engagement to manage all aspects of the Avalon’s fundraising initiatives, membership program and community outreach.

 The ideal candidate has experience working in a leadership position in development for a nonprofit arts organization, is tech savvy and is familiar with the Washington, DC philanthropic community, local businesses, and potentially untapped opportunities for our film-arts organization to strengthen membership and individual giving.  The candidate is enthusiastic about the Avalon’s mission and joining the Avalon’s senior leadership team.



Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

Annual Fund Campaign

  • Manage the annual fund campaign.
  • Ensure accurate entry of all donations into the donor database and timely sending of acknowledgements.
  • Supervise maintenance of donor database, creation of donor reports and analysis of campaign results.
  • Conduct donor and donor prospect research.
  • Manage the cultivation plan for donor prospects.
  • Oversee, improve, and implement stewardship and retention strategies for current donors.

Fundraising Events

  • Oversee and plan development related events including the Avalon’s annual spring benefit.
  • Solicit underwriters and other major donors.

Grant Writing and Management

  • Manage foundation and government grant applications, administration and compliance.
  • Research foundation prospects to underwrite Avalon programs, general operations, and capital campaigns (as required).
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop grant application strategy and to generate grant proposals.

Membership

  • Implement innovative and effective approaches to retaining, engaging and recruiting members.
  • Work with the Membership Coordinator and front of house staff to support Avalon members.
  • Periodically evaluate Membership pricing and benefits and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Maintain and update marketing materials as needed in collaboration with the Marketing department.

Community Outreach

  • Lead, arrange and participate in the Avalon’s community outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Work with local community organizations such as Chevy Chase Citizens Association and Historic Chevy Chase DC to arrange Avalon participation in appropriate community events.
